Reconstructive Oral and Craniofacial Surgery

Drs. Holmes and Sclar are specialized in the reconstruction of major defects. These problems may be due to tumors and cancer surgery. They may also be due to congenital disorders such as cleft lip and palate as well as other craniofacial syndromes. Occasionally, major defects may result from trauma and require secondary reconstruction also.

The reconstruction of oral and facial defects involves complex surgery that often requires multi-staged procedures. Procedures may include soft and hard tissue grafting, complex flaps and corrective osteotomies. Also both oral and facial implants may be required.

These surgeries are performed in the out-office surgical suite under I.V. sedation or general anesthesia. After discharge, bed rest and limited physical activity is recommended for a variable period of time.
